The light and colors of the Mediterranean landscape have attracted many painters and the area holds many museums that recall their staying in the area. The most important is the Maeght Foundation in Vence which includes one of the largest collections of French modern and contemporary art. The visit of the foundation may be usefully complemented by visiting village of Saint Paul de Vence, just nearby.
Three other museums are devoted to specific artists. The Picasso Museum in Antibes, the Matisse Museum in Nice and especially the Fernand Léger Museum in Biot . If you have time , you can also visit the Bonnard museum in Le Cannet .
And if you visit Monaco, do not forget to stop at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild , a testament to the life of the rich aristocrats of the French riviera in the early twentieth century.
