It is often forgotten that the name of the department includes the word Alps and these are not small mountains with the highest summit of the department being more than 3,000 meters high.
In winter, skiing is less than three quarters of an hour in the small ski resorts of Greoliere des neiges and Audibergue . These resorts are perfect for an afternoon of family skiing . And, for the fittest, the three Mercantour stations of Auron , Isola 2000 and Valberg have nothing to envy from the villages further north.
In summer the area is full of wonderful hikes. Mercantour Park and the Canyon du Verdon are the crown jewels of the area but there are also plenty of smaller tours to be made in the area, including the gorges du loup, the canyon du Cian , and the Siagne Valley.
