The plain of the Siagne has been an unhealthy swamp for centuries and houses were therefore limited to the hills overlooking the valley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 1808, a major flood opened a gap on the seafront, allowing the Siagne to freely flow to the sea, releasing the alluvial land suitable for agriculture\u00a0with a \u00a0salubrious climate. Population then grew\u00a0among prosperous fields. The existence of the house has been\u00a0documented since 1802. It is therefore in all likelihood, one of the oldest in the village.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Puits-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-552 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/themes\/grey-opaque\/plugins\/lazy-load\/images\/1x1.trans.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Puits-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"The old well\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-552 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Puits-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"The old well\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/noscript><\/a>The\u00a0choice of its location has been carefully planned. In this country, water is a precious commodity. The house is located just near the well. This well was redesigned in successive extensions especially when creating <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=370&amp;lang=en\">the petanque ground<\/a>, but it is still there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Originally, the house was probably a modest cottage, consisting of a room that\u00a0became <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=169&amp;lang=en\">the traveler&#8217;s room<\/a> and an attic, that became <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=69&amp;lang=en\">the belle chambre bedroom<\/a>. In the nineteenth century, the house grew and became what was then called a campaign\u00a0i.e.\u00a0a mansion\u00a0belonging to a wealthy urban\u00a0important person.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Vue-de-face-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-554 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/themes\/grey-opaque\/plugins\/lazy-load\/images\/1x1.trans.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Vue-de-face-1-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"The house in the 19th century\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-554 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Vue-de-face-1-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"The house in the 19th century\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Vue-de-face-1-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Vue-de-face-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/noscript><\/a>At that time, the property\u00a0stretched from the top of\u00a0the hill to the main road and the stream of Mourachonne. The main crop\u00a0of the period\u00a0was the flower, the main raw material of \u00a0Grasse&#8217;s perfume industry. One can\u00a0still see the remains\u00a0of the former irrigation systems on the ground. On the southern slope of the hill, jasmine \u00a0was cultivated while Roses were\u00a0on the north side . The house was purchased by a family who built <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=59&amp;lang=en\">the terrace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=269&amp;lang=en\">the big room<\/a>\u00a0and planted a large\u00a0part of the 500 trees that make the property so nice today.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The current owners have built <a href=\"https:\/\/helemaure.fr\/?page_id=283&amp;lang=en\">the pool<\/a> and carried out the renovations that were necessary to allow the house to offer high quality services whilst retaining its authentic atmosphere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>P\u00e9gomas name appears for the first\u00a0time in 1130 when the counts of Toulouse sell the &#8220;P\u00e9gomacio&#8221; area to the monks\u00a0of L\u00e9rins&#8217; Abbey.
